What Can & Can’t be Dumped in our Landfill?

A Construction and Demolition (C&D) landfill receives construction and demolition debris, which typically consists of roadwork material, excavated material, demolition waste, construction/renovation waste, and site clearance waste. Our C&D landfill does not receive hazardous waste or industrial solid waste.

Other Types of Permitted C&D Materials can Include

  • Concrete
  • Wood (from buildings)
  • Asphalt (from roads and roofing shingles)
  • Gypsum (the main component of drywall)
  • Metals
  • Bricks, soil, and rocks
  • Glass and fiberglass
  • Plastics from construction site
  • Salvaged building components (doors, windows, and plumbing fixtures)
  • Tree stumps, earth and rock from clearing sites
  • Mattress and box springs
  • Furniture that has a structure of wood or metal

Typical Items that are Not Permitted are

  • Household waste and general trash
  • Plastic bottles/buckets and plastic furniture
  • Household chemicals
  • Lead Acid Batteries / Lithium batteries
  • Paint / paint cans
  • Books, clothes, bedding or any fabric items
  • Calking tubes, or any type of aerosol cans
  • Electronics of any sort, electrical equipment containing hazardous materials
  • Plastic toys or outdoor play structures

What Can & Can’t be Dumped in our Sorting and Recycling Station?

At the entrance to the City of Galena Construction and Demolition (C&D) landfill is a sorting station, including docks for unloading your debris and trash. This is only a partial list of what is not allowed, please call or email if you have any questions.

All Permitted C&D Materials Including

  • Concrete
  • Wood (from buildings)
  • Asphalt (from roads and roofing shingles)
  • Gypsum (the main component of drywall)
  • Metals

Non C&D Items that are permitted at sorting station

  • Plastic toys, play structures, buckets and bottles
  • Regular household trash
  • Dry paint cans and caulking tubes
  • Tires (car/truck, semi truck, farm vehicles)
  • Cardboard / paper / plastics
  • Electronics

Not Permitted items are

  • Household chemical
  • Lead Acid Batteries / Lithium batteries
  • Electrical equipment containing hazardous materials

What if I overfill my dumpster/box?

  • Filling the dumpster over the fill line (or top of box) is not permitted
  • Over filled boxes will not be collected, an additional $100 over-filling charge will be applied to reschedule collection at a later time/date
  • Any extra weight/time charges will also apply

How heavy can my box be?

Maximum permitted weight in any box is 10 Tons. If a box is overloaded it will have to be emptied to permitted weight and $100 Overweight Fee will apply as well as rescheduling collection.

What are the dimensions of the containers?

10 yard – 8 ft wide x 3 ft tall x 16 ft long

20 yard – 8 ft wide x 3 ft tall x 18 ft long

30 yard – 8 ft wide x 6 ft tall x 22 ft long

40 yard – 8ft wide x 8 ft tall x 22ft long

What is the Capacity of each size container?

10 yard can hold approx. 3-5 standard pickup truck loads

20 yard can hold approx. 7-9 standard pickup truck loads

30 yard can hold approx. 11-13 standard pickup truck loads

40 yard can hold approx. 12-14 standard pickup truck loads

We accept cash, checks, and all major credit cards.

How can we pay our invoices?

We can process payments over the phone using a credit card, or you can pay with cash, check, or credit cards at the office located at 1040 E Front St, Galena, KS.

Does your company have any additional fees?

Our company believes in being upfront and honest about our prices, the only additional fees are if you go over your allotted days or over your fixed tonnage.

Do you have online bill pay?

Not at this time, but this feature will be coming in the near future.

What are your office hours?

Monday thru Friday from 7am to 5 pm. (Winter Hours – Nov 1st to Mar 31st)

Monday thru Friday from 7am to 5 pm Saturday 7am to 1pm (Summer hours – Apr 1st to Oct 31st)

In the event of bad weather, does it affect our roll-off operation?

The safety of our drivers and the communities we service are our up most top priority, therefore slick roads and below freezing weather are hazardous for our roll-off operations. All operational decisions are determined by the managers, if routes are called to stop, any customer affected by this will be contacted

In the event of bad weather, does it affect the landfill operations?

To keep our employees and all customers safe, we follow KDHE regulations when it comes to bad weather
In the event of lightning strikes during a thunderstorm, everyone must evacuate the landfill for 30 minutes from the last strike

What safety gear should I have to go on the landfill?

Everyone is required to wear a hard hat, safety vest, and close toe shoes before they go on the landfill.
You can borrow a hard hat and safety vest at the scale house free of charge or you can purchase new ones.

What are the rules of the landfill?

No smoking on the property at any time.

10 MPH throughout the landfill.

You will have to weigh in and out of the landfill on our scales/weighbridge.

Wear your hard hat and high visibility vest at all times while out of your vehicle.

Wait for our spotter to instruct you where to dump.

Do not un-tarp until you are on the landfill in the un-tarping zone.

No non-dumping trailers are allowed on the landfill face, they must hand unload at the sorting station.

Is there assistance unloading at the landfill?

Due to safety and liability, we do not use our equipment to help unload, unless by specific prior arrangement.

Where can I set a dumpster?

Most dumpsters are set in the driveway or on the street as long as there are no low hanging power lines or tree limbs. We do not recommend setting dumpsters on new driveways as there is a risk of marking / scraping or damage. We will not set dumpsters in any area where our truck has to drive on wet/muddy grass or soft ground. You will be asked to sign a waiver or any damage prior to delivery.

Can I move your dumpster?
